FAQs

  • The shoulder seasons of spring and fall are the best time to avoid the heat and crowds of high summer. Most businesses shut down in the off-season months of November-March. If you’d like to enjoy warmer temperatures for swimming and ensure all shops and restaurants are open for business, we recommend May/June or September/October.

  • You can’t go wrong on the Amalfi Coast but deciding where to stay depends on what you are looking for in your trip. For a lively, well connected base with lots to do close by we recommend Sorrento. For world famous views and the best beaches we recommend Positano.

  • You could spend weeks on the Amalfi Coast alone but understand you are limited. We recommend a minimum of 4 nights with 7-10 days being a sweet spot to get the most of your trip.

  • Naples International Airport (NAP) is the closest and most well connected airport to the Amalfi Coast. The airport is about 33 miles from Sorrento. Methods of transport to connect from NAP to the rest of the coast include bus, ferry, train and private transfer depending on which town is your final destination.

Salerno airport (QSR) is a smaller airport closer to the Amalfi Coast but serves more regional flights and might be harder to get from international flights.

  • Renting a car is generally not recommended due to winding roads that are difficult to navigate as well as very limited parking. Most common alternate transport options include the SITA bus, ferries and private transfers.

  • Ferries are one of the most scenic modes of travel around the Amalfi Coast, with main ports in Naples, Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi and Salerno and connections to islands like Ischia and Capri. Ferry tickets can be bought in person at any ferry terminal or online in advance from any of the ferry companies.

  • The SITA Sud bus system is the main way to travel between towns along the Amalfi Coast, offering routes connecting popular destinations like Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello. Buses run frequently in the summer but can be crowded, especially during peak hours, and tickets must be purchased in advance at tobacco shops or bus stations. Expect slow, scenic rides along narrow, winding roads, and be prepared for occasional delays due to heavy traffic, particularly during the tourist season.
